Shockwave Therapy – effective Treatment for tendon and ligament problems
Shockwave therapy is clinically proven treatment for patients presenting with chronic tendon and ligament disorders such as achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, tennis and golfer’s elbow, knee, shoulder pain and back pain. It is clinically proven to reduce pain, promote healing and reduce muscle tightness.
Your therapist will apply the treatment directly to the outside of your body in a carefully targeted process that will send an acoustic ‘shock’ wave in a single pulse to the problem area.
It is typical for a patient to experience some initial discomfort but that should only last 24 hours or in most cases. Treatment guidelines recommend a total course of five or six treatments, each about a week apart to achieve optimal results.
Success Rates: 90% improvement was recorded for the treatment of Plantar Fasciitis (heel pain) by the Journal of Orthopaedic Research (2005). The same publication quotes a 77% success rate when treating Tennis Elbow with Radial Shockwave Therapy and other clinical studies have generally reported a success rate of in excess of 75%.
Nice (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) provided evidence to the NHS: NICE evidence for Shockwave
Shockwave therapy sessions are 1/2 hour and cost £65, considerably lower than other clinics.
